Our ASEAN, Our Family

I was really amazed to know how much you can learn through people's story just by intense chatting in Facebook! Not just to learn how a quiet person in real life actually has so much stories that worth listening, but also how a citizen's mind reflecting on the condition of his/her country.

I truly learned a lot from my fellow ASEAN friends. I now have deeper perspective and relation with the region. Uh, the summit was sooo fabulous.

I learned even the simplest thing : Cambodian doesn't speak Cambodian or 'Cambodianese', they speak Khmer.
Next is that the tension between Indonesia and Malaysia is just nothing compared the past 'potential' war in Mekong river region. And the role of Uncle Ho. And how Thailand didn't get through the colonialism period. Those things that I would never ever get in the national curriculum.

The knowledge on Singapore politics, my passion, is also something that I would always count. How a Singaporean loves Lee Hsien Loong just like his father. Nothing to deal with dynasty or nepotism. Surely it's something that you can learn easily while just browsing and analyzing books but you need to hear stories, too.

Even I got the most precious knowledge on Buddhism from a Buddhist. I know several Buddhist in my school but they always say that they're not allowed to share/teach someone about Buddhism unless they're monk. And now I know that Metta's dosage of meditation, 150 mins a day, is TOO MUCH. Hahaha.

I seriously can't show enough of my feelings, thankfulness and gratitude toward the summit and all the people in it. I am not good with words. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kin, Kah Wei, Tian, Ary, Tu, Qianying, and Heng. Also Kevin Teo and Leng Lim, for the most inspirational talks and session. Both are sooo charismatic ah. And of course, fellow participants and speakers! You're all FABULOUS! Especially my super-cool-and-inspiring co-leader, Ry-Ann! Seriously, she's really talented and amusing.

Now I'm thinking of taking Southeast Asian studies as my minor hehehe :P
